Purchasing a Firearm in Virginia

FFL Transfer Terms & Conditions:

Customers may pick-up / drop-off firearms during their scheduled appointment time.

Transfer fee $25 per firearm.

NFA transfer fee: $150

Note: there is no fee if purchased from Lotus Tactical.

All transfers are by appointment: Thursday, Friday 1230pm-5pm. Allow for approximately 30min unless there are delays. We are flexible and can accommodate some extended hours case by case.

Long Guns & Pistols: Must be at minimum 18-20 years of age for long guns (rifles & shotgun) and 21+ years of age to purchase pistols.
Inbound Transfers:
The Buyer email info@lotustactical.com, subject “Transfer”, the customer will include their name, telephone number, email address, make and model of the firearm.
Private party shipped transfers:
Include all of the inbound transfer information and WILL include a readable copy of their state issued driver’s license. Private party sales are permitted to send long guns only, pistols must be sent though and FFL.
Military Transfer/Purchase Requirement:

An active-duty military member may establish residency by presenting permanent change of station (PCS) orders and a valid military photo identification card (see ATF Ruling 2001-5). The PCS orders may be either paper or electronic, as stated in the Form 4473 instructions for item 26c, “Licensees may accept electronic PCS orders to establish residency.”

Spouses and other dependents of an active-duty military member may not claim residency using PCS orders, as 18 U.S.C. 921(b) applies only to members of the Armed Forces.

A military member claiming residency in a state in which he or she is present with the intention of making a home must demonstrate that residency to the federal firearms licensee (FFL) by presenting a valid identification document, or a combination of valid, government issued documents, to satisfy the identification document requirement

Background Checks:

Background checks are performed at the time firearm(s) are picked up

Shipping firearms:

All firearms are shipped to licensed FFL dealers

Firearm Inspection:

All firearms that are delivered or shipped out are inspected and photographed. If any defects or damage is present the intended transferee will be contacted immediately. Lotus Tactical not held liable for any defects, damage, or malfunctions of firearms transferred to or from third party sources.

Returned or Cancelled Transfers: Customer is responsible for all return shipping charges should they wish to cancel and return a firearm to a seller. Customers may be charged a fee for the GCA/NFA recording requirement of $15.00-$50.00.

Abandoned Transfers:

Firearms transfers are considered abandoned if not picked up within 30 calendar days unless arrangements are made within the 30-calendar day period. Abandoned firearms will be forfeited and acquired by Lotus Tactical. The firearm may be retained or sold.

Note: These requirements, and a background check, apply whether purchasing a firearm, transferring a firearm, or picking up your unsold consigned firearm.

All firearms sales and transfers:

All sales/transfers are final from Lotus Tactical, Sales and transfers from third party companies may vary. Any staff member at feels uncomfortable with the sale reserve the right to deny the transfer or sale of the firearm and return the firearm to the seller.

Primary Identification Requirement:

Primary Identification consists of a VA Driver’s license or DMV-issued Photo ID that is 30 days old or more. The ID must have the current and correct name and physical address for the cardholder. A copy of the purchaser’s DMV driver’s record showing that the original date of issue for the license was more than 30-days prior will suffice if the license has been re-issued, or the person has changed addresses.

Primary Identification for a non-VA Resident, for the purchase of a rifle or shotgun, must consist of a valid driver’s license or photo-ID issued by a governmental agency of the prospective purchaser’s home state that denote the purchasers name, race, sex, date of birth and current address. Federal law prohibits the sale or transfer of a handgun to a nonresident of the state in which the handgun is being purchased . A social security card or birth certificate IS NOT an acceptable form of Primary identification.

Address Verification:

Virginia State law requires a second form of identification to verify the buyer’s address. This second form of ID must have a name and address that matches the buyer’s primary ID.

Acceptable documents include:

  • 1.concealed Handgun Permit
  • 2.a current lease
  • 3. evidence of currently paid personal property tax or real estate tax
  • 4. a current utility or landline telephone bill
  • 3. evidence of currently paid personal property tax or real estate tax
  • 5. a bank statements
  • 6. a current voter registration card
  • 7. a current bank checks
  • 8. a current automobile registration
  • 9. a current hunting or fishing license
